About Dr. Hunter

Gentle care when it
matters most.

Dr. Jim Hunter created Hunter Veterinary Services to provide personalized, compassionate end-of-life care for pets in Richmond, Virginia and surrounding areas. During this difficult time, his focus is on helping families find peace of mind while ensuring comfort and dignity for their pet.

A 1984 graduate of the University of Virginia and a 1990 graduate of Virginia Tech's School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Hunter founded Countryside Veterinary Clinic in 1992. After 27 years of small animal practice, he made the deliberate choice to focus exclusively on in-home end-of-life care.

Having been through this journey himself multiple times, Dr. Hunter understands firsthand that the familiarity of home provides a level of peace for both the pet and owner that a clinic environment simply cannot replicate.

Dr. Hunter believes every pet deserves a peaceful passing, and every family deserves to be supported — not rushed — through one of life's hardest moments.
